Last month, we talked about marketing, but today, we will concentrate on the overall business for your company. There are so many aspects to self-publishing that you want to make sure that you’re organized. Until you get your own system in place, I’ve created a check list that will help keep you on track as you prepare to publish your book. Please review the checklist and leave your questions in the comment field on this blog post.

Other resources: Self-Publishing Manual by Dan Poytner and How to Self-Publish & Market Your Own Book by Mark E. Smith and Sara Freeman Smith are two books you should add to your personal library if you’re considering self-publishing.
The checklist is located at:

This wraps up the 4-1-1 on Self-Publishing series. Please go to the Blogging in Black archives to view the other posts. I hope what I’ve shared has helped you in some way.

If you have any questions about the check list or self-publishing, please leave them in the comment field.

New Beginnings

2009 proved to be an interesting year professionally and personally. I left behind the bad memories in 2009 and have chosen to focus on making good memories as 2010 rings in. As I reflect on what happened in 2009, the changes that occurred were inevitable. Although some of those experiences were painful, I grew from [...]

Add Black to your Shopping Cart this Holiday

This Christmas season why not buy books for gifts. Whether the person likes romance, contemporary fiction, mysteries, science fiction or non-fiction, there’s a book out there to fit a variety of tastes. While doing your shopping don’t forget about picking up books by people of color. Many books by African-Americans go unnoticed unless its part [...]

Authors in Search of Extra Income

Many writers I know are always on the search for ways to make extra money. Time constraints and not knowing where there’s available freelance opportunities have been the two biggest complaints I’ve heard from my writing buddies. Many places have cut back on hiring new writers; however opportunities to make money is still out there.  [...]

When Sparks Fly

One of the questions I get asked a lot is why did you decide to write young adult novels? Of course there are several reasons. I’ve been a mentor for years and thought it was time to stop putting off something I wanted to do years ago. It’s hard reaching young people so writing is [...]

What's On Your Bookshelf?

Last month I was crowned the Queen at the Author! Author! Book Festival in Shreveport, LA. Whether its writing them or reading them–I love books. Since I write during the day, I usually don’t read until night. If the book is good, it cuts into my sleep time. LOL
Below is a list of [...]
