Hello, BIB family!

You know, in this day and time, it’s very easy to be worried. I worry about people shouting at meetings where they’re supposed to be talking. I worry about people using the Bill of Rights to intimidate others. I worry about people who seem to have lost their damn fool minds.

And then being human, I start to worry about me. I worry this mysterious sciatica even though I’m actually down a few pounds. I worry about my brain being so overloaded that it’s hard to form a coherent spoken sentence, much less a written one. I worry about my readers not being happy about the progression of my writing career. I worry about my transition from romance to urban fantasy. A message from Seressia Glass:
Twenty-three years ago, I decided to write an essay for the first Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday in Atlanta. I was a high school senior at the time, full of all the idealism and hard-headedness that only teens seem capable of. But I had dreams then.
I dreamed of rising above the [...]

Twas the week before Thanksgiving as I sat on my couchwondering if lack of success was because I am a slouch. The royalty statements came through the mail with care; But alas and alack– no check was in there.

The Uncluttered Mind

This weekend, I did a full court press on organizing my office. (I sorta had to, since a technician was coming to install my cable modem.) So with trips to Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart still smoking my debit card, I set about visually reducing the clutter. My author copies went into a [...]

I was going to do a post on creativity, but then this whole New Yorker cover controversy erupted. Now, I don’t want to get all political up in here, because there are Democrats, Republicans, and Libertarians in my family (yeah, Turkey Day is fun!) and members of this blog, so I won’t post about [...]

So as I was lying in bed last night, thinking of what the hell I was going to blog about on the 20th, “Under Pressure,” the song by Queen, started playing in my mind.
Like I needed that. Oh wait, yes I did. To jump-start my post.

Another time it’s hard to be a writer is when it comes to reading.
I’ve just gone through two rounds of judging for a national contest, as well as giving a handful of manuscript critiques for my local writing chapters. Nothing kills the joy of reading like having to read critically.
Some of the stuff I’ve [...]

Becoming published is a big deal. We all know that. Staying published is an even bigger deal. You saw Angela Henry’s post about the three things she wished she’d known before getting published. All three of these are true. Now I’m about to tell you one important thing about staying [...]
