If life were a fairy tale, my agency’s name and slogan would be “Magic Wand Literary Agency- Where Literary Dreams Always Come True.” But since we’re in the real world, I named it MJLA instead.
Literary agents are many things to many writers. Sure, there are the normal duties: writer’s advocate, negotiator, dealmaker, buffer, career shaper, and liaison. But often we are also a writer’s greatest literary supporter, friend, cheerleader, hand holder, therapist, ego manager, financial advisor, and more often than not, bearer of bad news.
